Satellite Tracking III

The third phase in AMSE’s groundbreaking Satellite Tracking program provides students with practical experiences to cultivate advanced techniques for tracking satellites. They are also able to develop a working understanding of the theory and operation of Software-Defined Radios. As part of the Satellite Tracking III program, students earn their Federal Communications Commission’s Extra Class license, by which they learn to transmit and receive signals on the entire range of frequency bands as authorized by the FCC. After the students receive their FCC Extra Class license, they fabricate and test a Software Defined Radio — the most advanced form of radio technology today.

Students will achieve the following:
  • Learn advanced FCC rules and regulations as well as mastery in Morse Code
  • Exercise advanced-level electronic fundamentals
  • Learn advanced techniques about radio propagation, including moon-bounce
  • Decode advanced digitally modulated signals
  • Fabricate and test a Software Defined Radio
